Rodeo action happens more quickly than the brain can process or the eye can follow. What occurs becomes a blur where we only remember the major details, the rest is a whirlwind of motion and color and is lost to us forever. The images I create freeze time and let us look into those blurred moments and see what was missed.
Rodeo photography is very different than other forms of sports photography because every event and every ride is a combination and contest of two or more brains, human and animal, and lightning fast reactions with incredible strength versus sheer determination. Stir those together and you never know what you will get, but the photographer has to be ready for whatever happens. It's exciting, tiring, sometimes tragic, but it's always a celebration of the spirit of our western heritage, a tip of the hat to the spirit of our ranching past and of those who tamed the west.
